Stop Dig and What That Means for You 2025

You may have heard the term “stop dig” floating around in Western Wyoming and Eastern Idaho. Our communities in these areas have a set date after which no one is allowed to dig in public right of way, this is called a stop dig date. Stop dig dates are usually put in place to account for snow, frozen soil, and other winter weather.

What’s a Public Right of Way?

A public right of way (those areas subject to a stop dig) is a place on property owned by the town, state, etc.. When you hear this, think about the borrow pit of a highway, or along an interstate. If Silver Star is scheduled to dig on your private property, that will not be affected by a stop dig.

How Does this Affect Me?

If you live in an area that has a stop dig, we may be delayed in getting your fiber service dug and installed if we would have to dig in public right of way. If this is the case, we will dig in your fiber service in the spring when the snow melts.

Can I Still Sign Up for Fiber or Service?

Absolutely! If we cannot get fiber to you immediately because of a stop dig, we can still get your service with fixed wireless or on pre-existing copper* Contact our Customer Success Team for more details.
