Did I Just Get An Email From Silver Star?

Email scammers may pretend to be Silver Star to gain access to your personal information, compromise your email, or steal your payment information. If it looks like you just received an email from Silver Star out of nowhere, read carefully and follow these tips to see if it passes a legitimacy test.

Before we get into it, we will never ask for personal or payment information over email. Silver Star is here to keep your personal information safe. If you receive an email that asks for your information, it is not legitimate.

Red Flags to Look For:

  • Sense of Urgency – Email scams want to scare you into taking immediate action so you don’t spot the issues with their scam. Scaring you isn’t our business, and we don’t lock you out of your account suddenly.
  • Email Address – Scam email addresses are unfamiliar or don’t make sense. Even if it says it comes from a “silverstar.com” email, if what follows before the @ is suspicious, don’t trust the email. For example, if you receive an email from welikescams@silverstar.com that says it’s from “SilverStar Email Admin”, that mismatch doesn’t make sense. We like to be easily recognizable.
  • Incorrect Name – Scammers just can’t get our name right. Silver Star’s company name is always two words. “Silver Star” is correct, “SilverStar” or “Silverstar” are not.
  • Weird Grammar and Spelling Mistakes – We pride ourselves on our communication making sense. Mistakes and bad grammar aren’t our thing, but they are common for scammers!
  • Out of Nowhere – Silver Star values your time, and we don’t send you emails out of nowhere for no reason. If you receive an email that claims to be us, think about if you recently contacted us, or if we recently reached out to you.
  • Wrong Contact Information – Silver Star doesn’t change our phone number! If the email lists a phone number that does not match our Contact Us page, don’t trust it.
  • Links Don’t Match – We like our website, and don’t often link you somewhere else! Check the link you received by hovering over it and see where the URL goes. If the URL has our website misspelled or doesn’t make sense for us to be sending, don’t trust it!
    • Don’t forget, your billing information from Silver Star comes from our Smart Hub app, so silverstar.smarthub.coop links and smarthub.coop emails can be expected!
