To prepare for winter (and snowmobile season!), several Silver Star team members spent a day fully stocking two warming huts in Star Valley.
The group first traveled over the south entrance to Greys River toward the Poison Meadows warming hut. They gathered about two cords of wood from nearby and were able to furnish both that hut and the Poker Flats hut with enough split and stacked wood to fill each of their storage areas! They ate a picnic-style lunch before heading back into town.
These two safety shelters can be used for warmth in the winter or as a refuge during inclement weather in the summer. The cabins shouldn’t be used for regular camping, but they can be used for emergency overnight stays. They most often serve as a base for Star Valley Search and Rescue to respond to emergencies. More information (as well as maps) can be found here.
