After what feels like the longest winter in history, summer is finally upon us! No more snow…no more mud… (knock on wood)!  It’s time to get out in the sunshine and plant!

Whether you like to plant a few flowers in the yard or to grow your own vegetable garden, here are some great gardening apps to help you get started with your spring planting:

GKH Gardening Companion – for Android and iPhone. It doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner or are a seasoned pro, this highly rated gardening app is a useful tool for any gardener. The app allows you to access 1000s of articles on gardening, as well as photos and YouTube videos. You can also track your garden’s progress, set reminders to help you care for your garden, and share your garden with your friends online via Facebool, Twitter, and Pinterest.

GRO – for Android. If you’re new to the area and aren’t sure what grows well here, or are just venturing into gardening,  this is the app to help you get started. GRO allows you to enter your garden preferences, such as flowers or vegetables, then pulls info about your location, temperature and season to recommend the best type of plants for your garden project and the perfect time to plant them. It will give you step by step directions from the beginning and continues through on-going care and maintenance.

Garden Plan Pro – for iPhone. Much like GRO for Android, this app combines expert plant knowledge with simple-to-use tools for Apple users. It will help you design the lay-out of your garden, provides full growing information, adapts to your area, and offers ongoing advice. It also includes a free email service that sends you personal reminders and offers priority support.

My Garden Answers  for both Android and iPhone. This plant identification app instantly identifies and provides detailed information on over 20,000 plants through image recognition…just snap a pic! It’s great to help you identify those “mystery” plants growing around your house!

Happy Gardening!
