Horse Scratches, Equine Scratches,  Greasy Heel, Mudfoot or Mud Fever Treatment

Also referred to as:  dew poisoning, foot rot, cracked heels, pedal dermatitis, facial dermatitis, cracked sore nose, scabby sore lips and muzzle

VETERINARIAN DEVELOPED AND PROVEN FORMULA FOR TREATMENT

  V. E. Harris, D.V.M.

This skin condition of the horse's foot affects the heels and pasterns.  Symptoms include:  scabby pasterns or scabby heels with oozing, smelly areas that may be cracked and swollen.  Lameness is often present and the feet are very tender to touch.  Many causes have been associated with this dermatitis, including:  microorganisms, allergies, photosensitivity, nutrition, irritants and soil or bedding conditions.

Horses with white faces or muzzles may also have "Scratches" (sometimes called "facial dermatitis")  with the same sore, scabby, cracked, oozy areas on the nose and around the mouth.   The condition tends to persist and to reoccur frequently, especially in horses with white feet and faces.

Inconsistent and unsuccessful treatments are numerous, costly and sometimes hazardous.  They often include:  soaking, scraping, wrapping, scrubbing, antibiotic and steroid wraps and injections;  D.M.S.O., livestock wormers, zinc oxide ointment, iodine compounds, chlorine bleach and other products alone or in combination; including such items as vinegar, honey, cayenne pepper, used motor oil or axle grease, colloidal silver and sauerkraut, along with many other "natural" or  "herbal" products, "healing oils" or industrial remedies!    Most of these are eventually unsuccessful and can be irritating or harmful to the horse and to the handler.

A Veterinarian Developed Formula for Treatment is Available
This treatment is gentle, non-irritating and works quickly. It is also extremely effective, inexpensive and easy to prepare.  The most effective and inexpensive way to treat Scratches is to purchase the formula from which the treatment can be easily prepared, over and over again.   (Scratches does reoccur in some horses, especially those with white feet or faces).  The application simply involves spraying or daubing the preparation onto the affected areas of the feet or face.  No scrubbing, scraping, soaking or wrapping is needed or recommended.   Since this treatment is gentle, non-irritating and contains no harsh or potentially toxic components,  little or no handling of the horse's painful and tender feet or legs is necessary. Subsequently, the possibility of injury to the horse owner or handler is minimized. This formula is also very effective as a wound treatment for minor cuts and abrasions.

" Dr. Harris, a Veterinarian in Wyoming, has developed an inexpensive antimicrobial treatment.  His formula (the recipe only) sells for $25.  We tried it on a resistant, serious case of scratches with cellulitis and found excellent relief of heat and swelling within 24 hours.  For more difficult cases, we like Dr. Harris's formula best..."

PLEASE READ SOME OF MANY PERSONAL ENDORSEMENTS:

"Just wanted to let you know, I had tried to clear up my horse's scratches from August until November,  pills, ointments...nothing seemed to work.  The scratches are finally gone, thanks to your remedy! My horse had it on all four legs up to her knees-she had been very tolerant of me washing/shaving scrubbing and picking at her, but again your treatment was wonderful, I didn't do hardly any of that. THANK YOU!"    Minnesota

"Dr. Harris,  I just wanted to let you know that the formula is working for my horse.  We started using it,  and except for one spot on one foot, the condition has cleared up (two weeks later).  I'm so thankful that I found your web site.   THANKS."   Tennessee

"I was leery of getting something off the internet-but your formula worked!  I have a white Arab and we recently moved from Virginia, where I did not experience scratches, to Michigan with dewy pastures.  I did not have to wrap, shave or keep my horse in while using the product.  After about 8-10 days I was able to wash off the dried scabs with no discomfort to my horse.  I highly recommend your formula, thank you."  Michigan

"This is the poor baby's nose I am trying to help.  He's a 3 year old paint, white nosed.  Looks painful.  I will send you an after picture if your remedy helps him out.  We have had up and down cold snaps here in West Texas, which may have caused this. You can have the pics for your website if you like.  I am fine with you using them.  His nose was raw, what a difference.  I would have spent a bunch of money and time at the vet.  Your treatment was a real time and money saver.  THANKS."  Texas

BEFORE AND AFTER  TEN DAYS OF TREATMENT

"Your recipe has worked better than anything else I've tried  (& I've tried a lot).  One of my affected horses is completely cleared up and the other is almost clear.  It was very easy to use. I just sprayed it on once a day at first and then every other day. THANK YOU!" Oregon

"I  cannot believe my horse is completely healed!  My mare rubbed her legs badly from wearing boots..., and the bacteria that causes scratches/mud fever, set in all around her pasterns in the rub mark areas. then continued to infect her skin until it continued up her entire leg almost to her knees, in all four legs!  To date, I have spent a little over $400 in vet bills.  I have treated this condition DAILY! never neglected a single day!  This started in July and continued to March. NINE MONTHS!  In desperation, I emailed you for your spray...which was applied to her leg...  In summary, here's what your medication did in exactly 8 days...The oozing stopped, good type scab healing commenced, and now it is naturally dropping off as I am just starting to brush her leg.  IT REALLY WORKED!  THANK YOU SO MUCH!'  Ontario, CANADA
