Recommended Security Practices
Install a firewall.
Preferred method: use a hardware router. By using a router, you have two advantages: 1) most routers are equipped as a built-in firewall and 2) you automatically have the opportunity for multiple computers to use one internet connection. Hardware wired or wireless routers are available at any Silver Star store.
Alternative: Install a software firewall. Several software firewalls are available for purchase and Windows XP comes with a software firewall that you can access by going to the “Security Center” in your Control Panel.
Install Anti-Spyware programs and run regularily.
Install Anit-Virus programs and configure to update and run regularily.
Configure your computer to install updates automatically.
