Community service team turns Bridge Campground into day use area - 11/19/2009

Silver Star Communications Community Service project team worked with the US Forest Service to convert Bridge Campground on the Greys River into a day use area.
Team Captain, Cody Luthi, commented “The main purpose of this project was to turn this campground into a day use area where successful kayakers can exit the river. This is also a great picnic area with four tables and fire pits s just a short drive from the downtown shopping district of Alpine.”

The group of Silver Star employees removed brush piles, a culvert, trees previously cut down by Forest Service crews, several bushes and trash and debris from the fire pits. A graveled path to the river was installed for kayakers to access the river from the parking lot, and several loads of gravel were hauled in by backhoe and were smoothed out by team members. Big rocks were also hauled in to prevent erosion on the river banks and the group removed a couple of oversized bushes to make room for an improved parking area.

Jay Romine of the Greys River Ranger District said, “Because of the help from the Silver Star employees on the Bridge campground renovation other important projects can now be completed that were slated for next year. They did a great job in a short amount of time.”
