Sustainability
Silver Star began its official journey to become a more sustainable company in April of 2008 by establishing a formal program. Although Sustainability or "Being Green" may seem like a trend or another advertising campaign for many businesses, we have created programs and measures to track our progress.
The concept is simple and common sense: be mindful of our environment, good to our people, and operate in a fiscally responsible manner. Silver Star has embraced the notion that in order to be truly successful, we must be strong in all three pillars of sustainability: social, economic and environment.

Community
As a local company, Silver Star believes it is crucial to the success of the company and to the vitality of the local communities it serves to be not only financially, but also actively involved in our communities. Our community investment through donations, scholarships, sponsorship, and community service all support our Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability Program.
Community Participation
Silver Star takes its commitment to serving its communities seriously by dedicating hundreds of hours to hands-on, team-based, community service efforts. From Silver Star sponsored community events to hosting four adopt-a-highway sections to actual service projects, Silver Star is a big supporter of our local communities.
Silver Star Sponsored Community Events
Each July Silver Star co-sponsors the Swift Creek 5K Fun Run and Walk with the Town of Afton. From registering runners to shuttling race participants up the canyon before the start, employees prepare for this fun event. Click here for more information.
Spring Clean Up, Driggs, ID
Silver Star has organized and sponsored a Spring Clean Up in Driggs since 2004. The event has evolved over the years into a “Teton Valley Celebration” with participants including the City of Driggs and the Community Foundation of Teton Valley. Taking place each May, the clean up is combined with an Arbor Day celebration. Non-profits are encouraged to participate with an incentive to earn a $500 grant funded by Silver Star and the Community Foundation of Teton Valley awarded to the non-profit with the most participants.

Community Service
Adopt-a-Highway
Silver Star has adopted four Adopt-a-Highway sections in Wyoming and Idaho, and we maintain these sections each spring and fall.
Team Projects
All of our team members participate in an annual community service program. These hands-on projects are chosen by each team and are not only rewarding for our employees, but fun as well. Often aligning with a local non-profit or the Forest Service or local government, Silver Star employees have spent countless hours serving our local communities.

2011 projects
Team Build – Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Teton Area
A Silver Star team of 12 recently spent a “team build” day on the 5-2-5 project inJackson, WY working on a few duplex units being built by the Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Teton Area. The team consisted of employees from both Star and Teton Valleys, some of which had construction experience and others who did not. A well organized project, all employees were in unison about what a rewarding experience it was. Fueledd by a hearty lunch from the Jackson Hole Grocer, the team secured subfloors, built walls and staircases, put blocking in place, and so on. Working alongside one of the partner families, it was an enjoyable day for all.
