Silver Star Installs Airport Webcam

Silver Star Communications partnered with the Afton Municipal Airport to offer real-time Internet visual of runway conditions. Silver Star installed a wireless webcam, with the goal of providing additional safety measurements for pilots. The new webcam will allow pan and zoom features so the user can view not only the runway but also beautiful views of Afton.

Afton Municipal Airport manager, Rick Sessions, commented “ We really appreciate Silver Star and their desire to support the aviation industry. The webcam is something that can be used by the entire community and is a real asset to the airport.”
Using wireless technology allowed the airport flexibility in where and how the webcam was installed. The technology improvements allows the bandwidth needed to power the webcams to be drawn from cell towers rather than a wired connection. Wireless Operations Manager for Silver Star, Tom Byers, said that this technology allows it to be used in areas that may not have a wired internet connection. “It is an affordable and reliable alternative to traditional webcams or security systems.”

The webcam can be viewed by going to the Town of Afton website at www.aftonwyoming.net and selecting the link to the Airport.
