Silver Star works with Swan Valley Fire Department on fencing project - 8/21/2009

The summer season at Silver Star has been full of community service projects. Split into ten teams, Silver Star set out to complete projects in Star Valley, Teton Valley and Swan Valley. The Swan Valley team explored several project ideas, ultimately choosing to work with the Swan Valley Fire Department on a fencing project.

The Swan Valley team provided a backhoe and eleven employees from Star Valley to install a pole and rail fence around property owned by the fire department. Several volunteers from the fire department joined the Silver Star crew, guiding them on the project.

Dean Philbrick, Swan Valley Fire Chief, commented on the project, “The team work and great cooperation displayed in completing this project brought forth the strength of Silver Star Communications’ core values and commitment to community values. Each of those individuals is truly a credit to your organization.”

As a part of the Yellowstone Business Partnership’s Uncommon Sense program focusing on “business leadership for a sustainable future,” Silver Star chose to create a company-wide community service program. The community service projects were created as a part of the social component of the sustainability program, as a way to enhance the company’s investment to the community. Silver Star has long donated financially to non-profits in the community and sponsors many local events and organizations, but felt that it could improve in the area of community service.

Silver Star’s community service project involves every employee, approximately 100, in a hands-on service project. Each team is in charge of brainstorming their own projects and organizing their own events. Ten teams were formed and only given a few guidelines by CEO and President Allen Hoopes: 1) the project must be team based, 2) the project must benefit the local community, and 3) the project must be service based.
